MCE Bolton Funday Success
51Æ·²è Volunteer Coordinator, Sobia Rana gives us the lowdown on the Muslim Community Events Family Fun day in Bolton, which was on Saturday 26/09/2015:
‘On 27th September 2015 Muslim Community Events, in partnership with 51Æ·²è, hosted a Family Fun Day at the Macron Stadium in Bolton where approximately £35,000 was raised to build shelter homes for the Rohingya community in Myanmar.Â
The turnout was amazing. Over 10,000 people attended. The volunteers worked hard to make it a success. It was great to see so many people from different faiths and cultures come together to raise money for suffering Rohingya. The atmosphere was buzzing, lively and colourful throughout the day.
There was a range of different stalls including designer suits, calligraphy, cakes and toys. Food lovers could enjoy a range of mouth-watering foods and drinks including Turkish breads, barbecue and Indian savoury snacks. Drinks on offer included mocktails, smoothies and freshly made juice.
The youngsters were having a blast playing with the animals in the soft play area and whizzing around on the funfair rides. It was a day that the whole family could enjoy.
Local children were given the opportunity to sing and rap - young stars of the future. A little five year old girl sang the beautiful 99 names of Allah, which was mesmerising and two brothers performed a nasheed and rap mix.
The 51Æ·²è stall did awesomely, selling hand-stitched prayer rugs from India and yummy halal sweets, signing up volunteers and encouraging people to dress up and take photos using our selfie boards. Our Rickshaw rides also went down a real treat.
Special guest Amir Khan came with his wife and baby daughter, which was a surprise to us all. His signed boxing glove fetched over £2000! The auction also included alloy wheels, a helicopter ride, Islamic canvases and hampers.
We were made very welcome by the staff and volunteers and it was a day to remember. I hope this will inspire people to hold their own fundraising events and challenges. This just shows what a difference they can make’. Â
